About
A little background
If you didn’t catch it already, I’m James. I grew up surrounded by video games and came to respect them as an art form that was very close to my heart; so, naturally, I decided to pursue an education in game development as I entered college. I attended UCSC under the Computer Science: Game Design program, graduating in 2023; however, while experimenting with pixel art in the summer of my first year, I found myself with an intense interest in pursuing the more “artsy” end of game development, eventually expanding my interest from pixel art to 3D modeling while working towards my degree.
In particular, I found myself enjoying the creation of lowpoly faux-retro models, as they provided an avenue for my pixel art skills to transfer while also allowing me to build a unique and abstractive artstyle for my models.
Outside of gamedev, my interests largely lie in survival horror, obscure shows like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Excel Saga, and fighting games. I’ve also found myself recently hooked on Riichi Mahjong and the culture surrounding it.
